Climate change has been a very hot topic in the past few months. It is all over the media and unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that it is an issue that has been getting a lot of attention and opinions from both sides.
By now, you may already have your own opinion or stance on climate change. Whether or not you believe in climate change, the Bible tells us something that we should keep in mind.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
What does this mean for us, as Christians?
The first thing we have to remember is that God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 clearly states this, but we seem to forget that the land live on is a blessing from God that deserves our care and respect. Deuteronomy 10:14 says, “Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the Lord’s thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is.” This means that the earth belongs to the Lord; and as Christians who love and serve God, we should take good care of what belongs to Him.
The second thing we have to remember is that God had made man a steward of His creation. We, as humans, were made to dwell and have dominion over the earth that God created.
Whether or not you believe in climate change, whether or not the effects are real, it should not stop us from taking care of what God has entrusted to us.
