Is This the New Normal?

May 5, 2020

“Is this the new normal?”

This is a question that has been asked by many people all over the world. Things have changed drastically for us in what feels like just a blink of an eye. Businesses and schools closed down, mass gatherings were prohibited, shows and concerts were cancelled, and people were forced to adjust to new rules for their own safety.

No one saw it coming, but everyone had to deal with it. Now, the bigger question is, are you dealing with it in FAITH? Or are you dealing with it in FEAR

Many people are experiencing anxiety, depression and hopelessness because of the current situation. These experiences are caused by the fear inside the hearts of men and women.

The Bible has taught us many things about faith and fear; one of them can be found in this verse:

Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

-Luke 21:26

Fear can fail us. It brings worry, depression, hopelessness, anger and loneliness. Fear stirs these emotions in our hearts which lead us to act in a negative way. Because of this, people become unproductive, unreasonable, inconsolable and some even lash out at others.

Right now, almost everything is filled with uncertainty. And because of this, there is a lot of fear of the unknown. But we need to realize that God is still in our midst even in this time. We need to hold on to FAITH and not be afraid.

And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

-Matthew 8:25–27

Like the disciples of Jesus, there are times when we lack in our faith in God. But during this time of pandemic, we must remind ourselves that God is always there and He can bring great calm in an instant with His mere words.

Let us deal with the new normal in FAITH
