Spiritual Discipline: A Key to Salvation

As believers, we have a lot of responsibilities. We also have what is called spiritual discipline. Let’s find out what spiritual discipline is and how it will help us to grow, to be good followers of Jesus and to become spiritually healthy.

1 Timothy 4:7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.

Spiritual discipline refers to practices found in the Bible that promote spiritual growth among us, the believers. It is not our attitude or character, it has something to do with our practices.

Here are examples of spiritual discipline:

PRAYER

Talk regularly to God, tell everything to Him: your problems, gratitudes and worries. This is our means of communication with God. God loves to listen to His children.

Jeremiah 29:12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

GROW INTO YOUR SALVATION

Read the Bible regularly. Doing this allows us to communicate with God through His Word. Read and meditate. This is the spiritual food that we need to keep ourselves on track, to make us strong and to keep our faith in God. It will help us a lot to grow in our salvation. Remember, if you already accepted Jesus as your savior, you have salvation already. However, we should also grow with it. Reading the bible is one of the key ways to grow. It enables us to learn to trust Jesus alone.

GLOW INTO OUR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY

Serve as a good example in your community. Show that Jesus Christ is living in us, that He’s in our hearts. We live by His glory, we follow Him and we let Him control our lives. Then our community will see Him with us, and that would be a big help to make them become one of us. This practice is called discipleship.

Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

We should discipline ourselves by the power of the Holy Spirit to show godliness to others and receive the fruits of peace, joy and salvation.
